On December 22, 2022, ESCIR carried out dialogue with Asian Institute of Technology. Both sides stated to leverage their technical strength and deliver more benefits of their research through AIT’s alumnus network in ASEAN. On December 16, 2022, representatives from MEM-Cambodia, MEMR-Indonesia, MEM-Laos, SEDA-Malaysia, ME-Thailand, ACE and the MRC attended the seminar on Policies, Standards, and Sustainable Development Prospects for Hydropower Development in ASEAN, introducing the development and sustainability of hydropower in their respective countries, as well as exchanging on issues of concern. They shared the same opinion that sustainable development of hydropower plays a crucial role in promoting regional energy transformation and sustainable development. It should be integrated as an important part of the energy plan of each country. The event jointly held by China and the Cambodian presidency is in line with the urgent needs of ASEAN. The attending representatives also conducted in-depth discussions on key issues related to biodiversity conservation, construction cycle, small hydropower development, and sustainable development of Lower Sesan II Hydropower Dam.

On December 15-16, 2022, under the support and guidance of China Society for Hydropower Engineering, ESCIR, China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute and Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and ASEAN Centre for Energy conventionally carried out the 2022 Exchange Project of the China-ASEAN Clean Energy Capacity Building Programme in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia. Officials from ASEAN energy authorities, representatives from the MRC Secretariat, and technical experts from PLN visited Lower Sesan II Hydropower Dam, and exchanged on policies, standards and sustainable development prospects for hydropower development in ASEAN.

On December 8, 2022, ESCIR visited the MRC. Both sides reviewed the solid foundation of cooperation in the past and agreed to continue organizing ESCIR-MRC Seminars. ESCIR and the MRC would conduct policy and technological exchanges and joint research on comprehensive river basin monitoring. The MRC invited ESCIR to attend the 4th MRC International Conference and the 13th MRC Regional Stakeholder Forum, and to share China’s experience.

On November 28, 2022, under the support and guidance of China Society for Hydropower Engineering, ESCIR, China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and ASEAN Centre for Energy jointly held the online capacity building exchange project themed at Sustainable Hydropower Development, during which issues of environmental protection and social safeguard, community development, and dam safety management were widely discussed. A total of 20 speakers, including energy policy makers, technical experts, and business representatives from China, ASEAN, and international organizations delivered presentations, with around 210 online participants.
