On April 2, 2023, the 4th MRC Summit & International Conference was held at the National Convention Center in Vientiane, Laos under the theme of "Innovation and Cooperation for a Water Secure and Sustainable Mekong". At the invitation of the Mekong River Commission Secretariat, ESCIR participated in the conference.

The International Conference of the MRC Summit provided an opportunity for the MRC and stakeholders from the riparian countries, NGOs, academia, regional/international organisations, the private sector, and other river basin organisations to exchange perspectives, best practices and cutting-edge ideas.It has been held for four times since 2010 in Thailand, and now it has developed into an important exchange platform for regional river basin protection and development. As a dialogue partner country to the Mekong River Commission, China has long participated in the activities of the MRC Summit.
