On September 20, 2023, during the first China-ASEAN Clean Energy Week, ESCIR and the Mekong River Commission co-hosted the sub-forum on "Sustainable Hydropower Development" of the 6th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum (EASCEF). Chairman Gu Hongbin moderated the forum; Secretary General Zhang Muzi participated in the exchange session; Member Xue Lianfang delivered a keynote speech.

A total of 130 participants attended this sub-forum, and representatives from various countries fully shared their experiences and thoughts on the sustainable hydropower development in the region. H.E. Thongphat Inthavong, Vice Minister of Energy and Mines, Lao PDR, Mr. Eddie Rich, CEO of International Hydropower Association, Dr. Anoulak Kittikhoun, CEO of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat,Mr. Kin Sothea, Deputy Director, Department of Energy Development of Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia, Mr. Yuan Shun, Director General of Department of Electric Power Safety Regulation, National Energy Administration of China, and Mr. Zheng Sheng'an, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of China Hydropower Engineering Society participated in the forum.
